[ALBUM REVIEW] The Clan pt 1: Lost - Monsta X

For my first listening experience with a boy group from Starship Entertainment, here is a quick rundown on Monsta X's latest mini album The Clan part 1: Lost

Ex Girl [feat Whee In of Mamamoo]: A sweet song about a couple who broke up and the exes are trying to come to terms with the end of their relationship, although still clearly have lingering feelings for each other to the point of wanting to spend one day together.

All In: Title track for this comeback and mini album. A strong beat dance track about expressing your emotions. In this case, a boy confessing his love for a girl and how he'll go all in through mind and body just for her.

Focus On Me / Stuck: Another fast track to follow on from All In. The theme of deep, fierce feelings for a girl continues here.

White Sugar: The mini album slows it down with a rather cosy jazz cafe-friendly track. A girl with white, cotton skin catches the eye of a boy and he has fluttering feelings for her, doesn't want her to leave him. This will definitely hype Monbebe in the crowd.

Unfair Love: Now we kick off with a rock dance piece here. A relationship that is not hot or cold is close to ending as the girl somehow seems to have an alternative reaction in public. Everyone else loves her and her other half is losing this battle to keep her. How is this fair, he argues. It's hard to break up.

Because of U: Ending the mini album with another smooth tune. Two people are on a date/spending time together although the girl seems distracted and not paying attention to the feelings of the boy. He wishes she look at him and know of his feelings for her, as well as express his love for her to the world.

Overall

Monsta X's mini albums so far have been a treat to listen to. There's a good balance of dance and hip-hop mixed with smooth tracks, even with the simplest ballads e.g. Broken Heart. The Clan pt 1 continues a nice balance of dance and smooth songs and it will be interesting to see how part 2 will turn out.
