[DRAMA REVIEW] Handmade Love (2020)

Handmade Love is a 2020 web drama with Lee Soo Hyuk as the leading male protagonist.

Woven is a God who has been banished from Heaven for stealing a beautiful piece of clothing from a Goddess.  As punishment he is to remain on Earth to make clothes for humans to console their emotions which he hopes will help him succeed in returning home.  In his tailor shop he creates amazing clothes with the aid of his servant Joey (Park Seung Ji) and a customer turned part-time employee named Han Sa-rang (Lee Su Ji).

A simple web drama consisting of 8 episodes, Handmade Love follows Woven as he designs clothes for customers who have a story to tell.   Each time he touches the clothing, he instantly sees the memories and asks for the customer to explain their reason for wanting him to redesign the clothes.  Seeing the customers in each episode reflect on their past as they explain the story behind their clothing and trying to learn how to solve their issues are the main core of the drama but there is also Woven trying to learn about human emotions during his time on Earth.

The different stories featured in this drama may be short and sweet but in general it tells you quite a bit in short amounts of time.  The cinematography and colours in this drama are wonderful.  I absolutely admire the tailor shop layout and it reminds me of a department store I used to visit in Central London which had designer labelled clothes and wooden floors from top to bottom.  I wish there was an official release of the OST because it perfectly captured the ethereal beauty of this drama.

I can't really fault how well-dressed the cast are as well.  Lee Soo Hyuk always shines in trendy clothes and brings out the surreal character of Woven.  I'll never be as well-dressed and pretty as Lee Su Ji but I can admire people who dress nicely.  She glowed in many scenes and brought out Sa-rang's emotional strength and flaws.  I felt bad for Joey during the drama as he was resorted to a third wheel of the trio/OT3 cast.  If there was ever a sequel to Handmade Love, he needs a girl/boyfriend to comfort him.    He is bubbly and deserves happiness.

Side note - approve of the word play with Sarang and Sa-Rang.
