[CONCERT REVIEW] Youth Tour in London - DAY6

DAY6 bring their Youth tour to Europe and was it worth the wait? Here is a review for their London concert.

After a two hour wait to just get a wristband at box office (yes it was a very long queue since there were fans from all over the world who had camped EARLY) and then an hour break to recuperate before rejoining the main queue to get into the venue*, DAY6's London concert kicked off at 7pm with a special MyMusicTaste video featuring all JYPE artists before introducing the main act for the evening. In addition to this, there was also a notice for everyone to not record. Inevitably many wanted to capture the moment and kept their phones or cameras up for long periods throughout the night which made me wonder how the band felt or they simply let it be because they couldn't stop the fans.

Truthfully, I didn't take a lot of photos nor filmed as I knew from experience it always turned out quite bad anyway because of short people problems and a sold out audience is often a riot with cameras being thrown out of nowhere and blocking your view. Our eyes had to be the camera for many of us in the end and I wanted to respect the band/MyMusicTaste's suggestion to not record every single detail and enjoy the moment. So back to the main event...

DAY6 almost performed their songs non-stop with very short breaks in-between, chatting to the MyDay about their first time visiting London the day before the concert, enjoying the sights and trying the food in zone 1. Jae and YoungK were the main English speakers but Wonpil, Dowoon and Sungjin tried very hard to say a few phrases in English even if it was in an endearingly shy manner. I felt the fans were overly passionate when Wonpil tried to speak near the end of the main set as they were screaming constantly and it was hard to hear the interpreter. The band also encouraged the fans to sing along during the likes of Shoot Me and I'm Serious. When the fan chants were successful it was quite a mind-blowing moment. I sang/screamed the lyrics and joined in on the fan chants that I managed to memorise.

The VCR shown before the last few songs of the set was of the guys being cute and ridiculous that it made many MyDay laugh so much. When the final part of the set started and the band had changed into the Youth hoodies and t-shirts it ended up being quite a party to close the evening. The concert finished around 9:30pm to prepare for the hi-touch upstairs in O2 Kentish Town Forum. Considering there were over 500 VVIP ticket holders the night was going to be long. Fans were escorted from the main pit to queue by the main entrance and were given tour posters by MMT staff before waiting to go upstairs.

Of course hi-touch had to be done extremely quickly (and could you really do it in 25 minutes exactly to cover everyone?). Just high five then leave the venue. No conversation, no pictures, no hugs. I also had no chance of buying merchandise as soon as I got into the venue and after the concert. It was that packed. I managed to leave the venue at 10:30pm after my turn at high-five session.

DAY6 had a table set up for high five outside the meeting/VIP room which was were I went when I had a group photo session with UKISS in September 2014 after their concert. As soon as you walked up the stairs, the high touch started right away and you couldn't delay. The order was Dowoon, Wonpil, Sungjin, Jae and YoungK. Hi-touch was less than five minutes. From what I could absorb over the experience Dowoon was keen during hi-touch, Wonpil and Sungjin exchanged thank yous with me, I said, "Hey Jae" before I high-fived him and when it came to YoungK I said hi YoungK and it was a bit of a soft high five as he seemed to hold his hand out gently.

A lot of MyDay said he made intense eye contact with them and smiled greatly but I didn't get any of that. It was more of a cold, handsome prince effect. He did however smile calmly (they all did but Sungjin, Dowoon and Wonpil were the bubblier ones!). Jae was rather chilled/casual and he was much taller than I thought. Obviously if I had more time I would have mentioned Kentish Town was my birth town and it was always fun to see my favourite artists in this venue but that would be a story which will never see the light.

Overall

I saw The Rose last year so continuing to reawaken the dormant inner rock fan concert enjoyment with DAY6 was a treat. Yes these guys were playing LIVE, throwing their charisma to the crowd and I punched the air when I could. It was that electrifying. A lot of my favourite songs were great in a live environment (I Need Somebody and Days Gone By to name examples). I was sad Colours was not included because it was one of my first favourite songs by DAY6 back on their first mini album and I always enjoyed Blood from Daydream.

Despite another wristband drama and the odd miscommunication, the concert and hi-touch went okay largely in thanks to the security working that evening to make sure everyone queued accordingly. I hope DAY6 come back to London on their next tour. You are always welcome here, guys.

Notes

* MyMusicTaste abruptly told everyone queuing up to work out where they were meant to be standing in numerical order which caused chaos down the line and considering the line for VIP and VVIP was very long already and going past office blocks it was very busy.

* Some goods I managed to collect. The stickers, key ring and bookmarks are from DAY6INUK which were given to donors who had provided the fansite money so they could print these items along with the banners. The green ribbon and white confetti fell on top of everyone during the concert. I wanted to get more freebies from fansites but it was hard to find them since everyone had to move around places.
