[SONG REVIEW] Neverland - Holland

Holland has been getting hype for more than one reason. So what's he all about?

Holland's Neverland is a sweet song that's really chilled for a debut. It's about his love for a special boy and the MV has a lovely colour scheme, very summery around the beach and countryside. The boys are holding hands, hugging each other, enjoying their time together on the beach and even arguing. They also actually lock lips - somehow this male x male smooching gives the MV an adult rating. R-rated, 15 certificate etc...depending by where you are based. It's a sweet video, there's no sex, raunchy scenes with bump and grinding. That 19 rating was not needed.

Holland's vocals may not appeal to many on first listen and listeners have said he will have to work on improving his singing and not sound nasally to turn people away. It is hard to hear his proper voice in the song since the tune is slow and quiet but hopefully Holland will be able to bring another song that will show his vocals more clearly.

Even when the teaser was released, people were worried whether the MV was perhaps a trick/queerbaiting strategy and something on the lines of intimate bromance that tickled the imagination of many. However, it is indeed true that Holland is one of the first few openly gay Kpop idols to debut and we should do our best to support to him or give him the encourage he needs against the large population of naysayers.

Neverland is a brave debut by Holland. I wish him the best. Fingers crossed you'll get somewhere.
