[ALBUM REVIEW] Demo_01 - PENTAGON

Pentagon's fourth mini album is released and here is a quick rundown of each song

Like This Title track for this new comeback. I love the MV and the song is so uplifting. It's about overcoming hardships to achieve your dream. Seeing how the guys help comfort and pick up their friends to make sure they can keep running and walking is touching.

It's Over Self-explanatory song name (and it's such a melancholy tune). The end of a relationship. The guy already felt it fading but the girl became numb later on when she realised it was all over. She still loves him though.

Until Today / Just One Night some parts of this song's beat reminds me of Lukewarm from the group's debut EP (a follow up song perhaps...?). Right before the relationship ends, the guy doesn't want his other half to call it a day yet and just delay the grand finale, asking for them to stay for one more night.

Cool Rap Featuring E'Dawn, Wooseok and Yuto. Rapper Line treat Universe to some of their charismatic rap. Close your eyes and think of it like a live performance. Just imagine them on stage and hyping the crowd. I'll never get over the 'Yuto da.'

When I Was In Love Finishing off the mini album we return to the mellow, bittersweet sound that was introduced to the listener in earlier tracks. When I Was In Love is about the strong, toxic reaction from being in love and apologising to the other half for becoming distant. It's over/done/gone he says. Nice to see Wooseok and E'Dawn sing-rap a bit here and definitely delighted over how Shinwon got more than a line here - same with Yan An.

Overall

The overall feel of the mini album is more up close I would say and considering that most of these songs were self-composed, it may not come as a surprise. We have an inspiring opening track through Like This and three other tracks focusing on the heartache and not flowery side of love. Cool Rap is evident from the title and is made to bop your head and move your arms to as you listen.

Alongside Yan An, Ko Shinwon finally gets a lot more lines. His voice is underused so much in the previous works and while he's no power house next to the main vocalists in the group, he has a lovely sound to his singing. In fact, I've noticed the line distribution in the songs have evened out between the Vocal Line which is a bonus because everyone deserves to sing more than a line or a simple sentence.
