[MUSIC ROUNDUP] KNK, K.A.R.D, SNUPER, MONSTA X, BTS

KNK, SNUPER and MONSTA X's Rapper Line release some new tracks this week and Bangtan cover an old school K-hip hop track to celebrate the artist's debut as part of a collab. Here's a quick rundown.

Come Back Home - Bangtan Boys

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Seo Taiji & The Boys' debut, Bangtan Sonyeondan collaborate with Seo Taiji and are given the honour to cover a classic song "Come Back Home." They add their own spin in terms of music style compared to the original but do not tear away from the theme of the song whatsover. The generation's struggles with life, the youth's difficulties in living and growing up. Bangtan aren't in the MV themselves so you can focus on the lyrics and the gritty scenes that reflect each word in the song. There is an explicit version of the MV, although it's just a little more gory and violent. Bangtan's cover is certainly a nod back to their debut era with the likes of No More Dream and N.O.

Hola Hola - K.A.R.D

Definitely a summer anthem that will go on repeat. Co-Ed group K.A.R.D finally debuted on official music shows with their song Hola Hola. If this doesn't make you want to wave and jump or potentially party away with your friends, what else can? This is a group we should keep an eye on. Their pre-debut songs are worth checking out on their Youtube channel.

Be My Friend - Jooheon and I.M.

Rapper Line of MONSTA X share a new song and a fun MV celebrating their friendship. The beginning of the MV is rather funny since it seems normal with the "what are you doing, hey let's meet up I need to give you something" conversation and then they switch to a more grittier style of clothing...to exchange a lollipop. The main song then starts off in sunnier, rainy climates which apparently is Singapore (I don't think I've been down this part of the country yet, maybe I'll trek there next time I revisit). It took me a while to work out as I originally thought perhaps this was in another South East Asian country that wasn't Singapore or Malaysia.

Rain [λΉ„] - KNK

Keunakeun's 2nd mini album Gravity gets a repackage with the addition of three new songs - the title track Rain, Good Night and Feel So Good. As you can tell from the MV, Rain plays an important part in this song. It's describing the reminiscence of an end of a relationship on a rainy day, all the heartbreak that happened and how it all came flooding back while it rained in present time. The teasers weren't lying about the angst and the brass and slow piano are signs that this song is going to be slower than the group's earlier releases. The choreography is fantastic with the umbrella usage. Check out the smooth dancing in KNK's M Countdown comeback stage here. Side note:- The bus stop that Seungjun is waiting by in the MV is very London-ish. I wonder whose idea it was to put a bus stop like that in the video.

Good Night is a touching song with a focus on acoustic guitar and piano. It's about a final night spent together with someone and bidding them farewell and good night. Feel So Good is romantic and about how the guys want to be the girl they like. They feel so good being next to her. Seungjun's line on how he wants to be your Peter Pan...well I wouldn't object at all. Besides, the fans are called Tinkerbells. The comeback timing couldn't be more perfect, having just seen them (or tried to see them) at Feel Korea Festival not too long ago in London. I can officially say I've become a fan after having them on my little radar for some time (I am indeed a slow poke at many things, namely with discovering new artists, new fiction etc).

The Star Of Stars - SNUPER

Along with KNK, SNUPER return with "The Star Of Stars" which is the title track of their repackaged mini album "Back:Hug". Both groups visited London for Feel Korea 2017 and also came back on the same day. How nice. Double the fun. In addition to the intro and the main song itself, the repackaged mini album also comes with a special bonus track in the form of a remixed Platonic Love. I've been keeping an eye on SNUPER ever since seeing them perform and going through their discography in preparation for Feel Korea a few weeks ago. I always enjoy their nod to the 80s pop scene. The Star Of Stars delivers with cute, happy dance tunes. It's a song about how the boys find a special someone who shines as bright as the other stars in the sky.
