Afternoon Tea at The Chesterfield Mayfair

A first try at an actually posh hotel and experiencing a pricey afternoon tea meal. Relatives came here for afternoon tea when they were on holiday in London and were given two envelopes for their next visit. They could only be opened on the actual day. So we thought we'd make use of the envelopes and booked a table for late lunch at Chesterfield Mayfair.

The envelopes contained 10% off the entire bill and could only be used once. Since I opened both envelopes I could only use one voucher per transaction. The dining area consists of a small bar area, a restaurant area and a tea room. We were lead to the tea room which had a lot of flowers and green plants surrounding the place.

We ordered afternoon tea for two plus an extra tea for the third person and shared the food together. You could also get a top up of specific foods. A possible mistake we made was ordering afternoon tea for two since that meant we were charged twice. I should have just asked for one afternoon tea and two separate teas instead (one pot of tea is £5). One afternoon tea is £38.50 plus service charge of 12.5%.

This may explain why the manager was giving us a quizzical look and didn't offer as much customer service to us as he did to the other customers who seemingly dressed better or were obvious tourists staying at the hotel as guests. Given this was our first time in a more 'posh' setting, hopefully this will be a lesson to learn. Unless the menu stated the price was for two people then that's fine but oh well.

The food itself was fresh and the teapots huge enough to last throughout the meal. The teas we ordered were all different. One afternoon tea, one Moroccan Mint and one Earl Grey. The tea was all leaves-based and we all had a special sieve to use when pouring the tea to catch the leaves properly. Between the three of us we were able to eat in a relaxing manner. Once we finished, we were allowed to take some sweets home from jars by the front desk of the restaurant.

Downstairs where meeting rooms and offices are based.
