[ALBUM REVIEW] Pentagon 1st Mini Album

Cube Entertainment's new boy group debut with a mini album.

1. Wake Up (Intro) It was used in the beginning of the Gorilla MV and in some way I think of this as a sharp introduction to the group and the album itself

2. Pentagon A song about a boy willing to protecting the girl he likes, be her "Pentagon", even though she doesn't share the same feelings since she's already got a man.

3. Gorilla Debut title track. Gorilla is used as a metaphor to describe the fierce feelings that a boy has for a girl. The lyrics and even the choreography express gorilla movements such as 'banging on my chest.' As a song, the brass beats make Gorilla sound funky and something you have to dance to

4. Lukewarm As the song title shows, it's about a relationship losing its fire and becoming 'lukewarm' and the boy wants to bring it all back by becoming less cold.

5. Smile A touching song focusing on a boy who instantly falls for a girl. Her smile makes him waver and of course smile himself. Is the cheering at the end of the song signifying that she accepted him? Who knows?

6. Organic Song Quite an interesting song composed by E'DAWN. Mostly focuses on the rapper line but Hui adds his vocals in later on. I feel in this song, the organic description would mainly imply they want to hear something real, something raw and natural.

7. You Are The last track on this mini album is a slow ballad by Vocal Line and it's a rather sweet tune on the beginning of a journey with your new other half. It makes me so fuzzy just listening to this.

OVERALL:

Coming from somebody who had not watched Pentagon Maker when it first aired, I was very surprised and did not expect to find such cool tunes on this debut album. The vocalists sound great and I still can't get my head round the fact some of Rapper Line are also Maknae Line with very deep voices. I think Pentagon's debut album is a definitely good start and a rather strong way to walk into Kpop land. It'll be interesting to see what the next album will consist of.
