[ALBUM REVIEW] Flight Log: Turbulence - GOT7

GOT7 continue their Flight Log series, only this time it is through their second full-length album.

01. skyway GOT7 will take you on an amazing journey and will keep you company on your flight. Nice opening to the new album. Make sure your seatbelt is fastened and they'll take you to "skyway." There is an instrumental in this song that reminds me of 24K (the name escapes me at the moment but if I remember I will write it down).

02. Hard Carry Title track for this current comeback. A ferocious dance track with fierce choreography. Like with the previous title track "Fly" for the Flight Log Departure album, the teaser trailer for Turbulence are mini films that lead onto the official MVs. I was thrown off by BamBam's higher pitch rap and it has been a long time since I heard Mark do a fusion of singing/rapping as he normally gets a lot of lines where he raps or murmurs. On the whole each member had a decent, equally spread out part in the song. Do read SB's review on the song as it goes into further detail (link).

03. Boom x3 Another party track to add to your playlist. It's not too fast so you can casually bop to the song. Very suave.

04. Prove It A slow, smooth track that can make the listener's heart fuzzy with all the intimacy. What a couple want to happen in their growing relationship.

05. No Jam Club scene. Boy meets girl. Girl fancies him, doesn't show it face to face but he catches her. He thinks the party is no fun without her.

06. HEY A song from the POV of a guy with unrequited feelings towards a girl who is dating a bad boy and thinks she deserves a better SO, even warning the bad boy that hey he could steal her. Everyone else except her can see he isn't that much into her. One of the more upbeat songs on this album so far.

07. Mayday A Jinyoung composed track. It's quite a dance/ballad fused tune that builds momentum throughout as the emotions conveyed get stronger. Please be my missing piece and I'm shouting Mayday. Those lines say it all.

08. My Home A song about a guy's home where he is actually referring to his girlfriend. Refers to his home girl and how glamourous she is like his closet and how cozy they are together looks on top of his bed. That's certainly going to make female listeners flail.

09. Who`s That A song that talks about a boy being compared to the male friends of the girl he likes/is dating and his annoyance with the comparisons. Also reminding her that she does like him and the effects he has on her.

10. If A guy is shy and scared to approach a girl he fancies as he knows she brushes off other male admirers so he imagines scenarios if they were together.

11. Sick Aftermath of a broken relationship. Making sure mutual feelings of hurt and missing the other half are there. The guy hopes his ex still thinks of him while with her new boyfriend.

12. Dreamin' There's quite an 80s/early 90s feel which perfectly fits the light-hearted side to this song. A guy is thinking about a girl and dreams about her constantly.

13.Let Me Here we wind down with a slower song where two people are by the seaside (possibly) and the guy wants to become closer, encouraging her to hug him, hold his hand.

Overall:

The general sound from Turbulence is definitely a step away from Flight Log Departure and the previous works. JYP is allowing the guys to once again produce and compose some of the songs themselves. The creative freedom on offer provides interesting results. Jackson's rapping has been lowered a little whilst BamBam's rapping has evidently gotten higher in some tracks but he retains his deeper tone now and then.

It is clear GOT7 want to experiment with their skills. Turbulence has more club-friendly tracks for the DJs to play with though as you work your way down the album you'll find there are one or two songs which can be be the listener's alternative if they want something that isn't too fast-paced and containing potential dancefloor beats.
