[ALBUM REVIEW] The Clan Pt 2: Guilty - MONSTA X

Monsta X return with part two of their album in the Clan series. How does it fair to Part 1: Lost ?

1. Fighter Title track for this comeback. A power tune that talks about fighting for love as a person of youth. Very suitable for fighters or athletes who want a strong entrance theme before they begin a fight.

2. Be Quiet The intro reminds me of a little of the new wave genre with the synthesizers and then the song takes a drastic turn, sounding more punchy. A so-called Goddess appears and the guys don't know what to say to her. Their feelings for her are very strong and uncontrollable. The pacing of the song makes me think of Hero where right after the repeated chorus, there is a dance break moment.

3. Blind Time to get sultry with Monsta X. Blind can mean unable to see the woman and only her silhouette but it can also mean blind as in the blinds that you hang on the window.

4. Queen Self-explanatory title here. The girl the guys like is adored by everyone, has graceful gestures and a beauty to back herself up.

5. White Girl Unsurprisingly the song title has caused some concerns for Monbebe. First impression that many felt was how it was a song dedicated to white girls and that doesn't really do any favours for white privilege, does it? Jooheon did state the song was a follow-up to "White Sugar" or "Sweetheart" from part 1 of The Clan. White girl in this case means a girl with a pure heart. It's a nice, chilled track that goes with the nice boyfriend image.

6. Roller Coaster Finishing up the mini album is a jumpy, happy-go-lucky song. It's about how a girl is seen as a roller coaster when it comes to how the boy feels about her.

Overall:

Another solid mini album from Monsta X. I will say part 2 is possibly more of a grower than its predecessor. You may have to listen to the songs a few times to get a feel of the music and lyrics till you eventually enjoy each track. I was also very surprised with how some of the song turned out. I knew for instance that Jooheon could sing if he wanted a break from rapping and he proved singing in White Girl alongside fellow MX rapper I.M. There's definitely more punch in this mini album and you can picture the group dancing fiercely on the faster-beat songs.
