[CAFE REVIEW] Toconoco

This little Japanese hideout in the Hackney area is cute and a delight to visit.

For the first visit to Toconoco I tried the Cold Soba. Second visit included the lunch menu of the day plus a special drink and a try of their cake. Check out the photos below:-

Cold Soba I was offered a choice of extra topping for £1 and chose tofu. For dipping there was soy sauce included and below the bowl of Soba was ginger. Drink to accompany my quick meal was iced green tea.

Salmon Don for lunch of the day. Salmon sashimi with avocado, cucumber, seaweed and sprinkled with sesame seeds. The lunch set came with a small spicy cucumber and tomato salad plus miso soup.

The rice was really soft and the meal very light.

Matcha Latte When I drank this I did not add any sugar as it was my first time trying the beverage. It tasted fine as it is. No overpowering bitterness. You could still taste the green tea.

Matcha Cheesecake Again like with the Matcha Latte, you can taste the green tea if you spot it hard enough.

Overall

Although I've been here twice so far the food at Toconoco is always fresh and I adore the layout. It's relaxing, especially when it's by the canal. You can sit outside when it's a nice day but also chill indoors with a long bench or small wooden tables with cushions. There's even a kids area for the children to entertain themselves with toys and books, as well as a large round table to eat by.

Lunch of the day normally costs £7.50 and the drinks will vary depending by what you want. Do check out the special desserts on offer when you visit. The cafe bake cakes and sometimes if you are lucky, you may get to try some when they've just been made and cooled down after being taken out of the oven. Special menus change during the week so do keep an eye on the cafe's social network sites if you want to see what is on offer for customers.
